In last year's campaign, Celestica employees stepped up and increased year-over-year contributions to the United Way by 72 per cent. Considering the tough economy, that's a feat. It reflects the power of engagement.

"We kicked off our Leadership campaign with great speakers," Elizabeth DelBianco, Chief Legal and Administrative Officer at Celestica explains. "The feedback I've received has been positive—employees really feel that the stories from the speakers make United Way real."

Leadership level giving takes some additional effort. "It's a little tougher; I appeal to their leadership instincts and emphasize that United Way is a cause Celestica is committed to. In the end, people are always ready to show others the way."

During the campaign, DelBianco targeted women leaders in Celestica. "We've noticed that a lot of women connect with United Way. Women take the cause to heart."

Like last year, Celestica is donating an employee to United Way to help work on this year's campaign. DelBianco says, "It's a great benefit to Celestica and the bright, young employees we send. They get a life-changing experience that connects them to their community. Supporting United Way is good for the community, and good for the company."
