Supporting the fabric that ties our city together

In his 18-year career at ADP, Bill Piggot, Vice President, Canadian Money Movement, has been donating at the Leadership level and championing United Way Toronto in his workplace.
Bill Piggot has always made a point of giving back to his community. He supports United Way Toronto as a Leadership donor and at his workplace he does even more by fundraising and educating his colleagues about what United Way makes possible in the community. As Vice President, Canadian Money Movement at Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP), in the 18 years he’s worked at his company, Bill has supported his workplace campaign in every way imaginable—as an ambassador, promoter, CN Tower Climb for United Way participant, and, as of last year, he’s taken the lead of ADP’s national United Way campaign.
“It’s a passion for me, it’s something I hold close to myself—I support United Way, as the company does, and it’s something I really believe in,” he says.
Bill explains that one of the key values of ADP is social responsibility, which aligns with his own views on giving back to the community.
“I was always charitable by nature, I think, and working with United Way just helped solidify that,” he explains. Giving back to his community has been deeply gratifying for Bill, especially knowing that he’s helping others move from poverty to possibility.
Exemplary of what it means to give back starting at the workplace, Bill’s connection to United Way Toronto came alive when he had the opportunity to take a tour of St. Stephen’s Community House.
“When you see that work in action—and some of the people who work there—the adult centre, what they provide the homeless, the women’s shelter, and coaching and mentoring at-risk youth, it’s all there, it just brings it to light.” This experience has helped others at ADP give back, too, by volunteering with Bill at St. Stephen’s during the holiday season, preparing essential needs kits for people who are homeless.
“We’re headquartered in Etobicoke. There’s a Community Hub very close by in the Weston-Mt. Dennis area, and again, we’re very much about giving back to the communities that we work in, that we employ in, that our associates live in, and that’s key to what we do,” explains Bill.
Giving back has allowed Bill to support United Way’s work to create opportunities for a better life for everyone, which he appreciates.
“We have a tremendous city—to see others in unfortunate circumstances is a shame. People should have more social responsibility about giving back, helping others in the community and just paying it forward.”
