United Way And Working Women Partner To Open 3rd Inner Suburban Community Hub
Multiservice centre in Victoria Park will help strengthen the local neighbourhood by providing services and opportunity for residents to connect in shared community space
TORONTO — The Hub @ Victoria Park and Eglinton will bring together a variety of programs from community development and settlement services, to programs for children and seniors, to crisis counselling and intervention, all under one roof and located in Toronto's Golden Mile, said United Way Toronto's President and CEO Susan McIsaac.
McIsaac said that residents will also benefit from new opportunities to connect and get to know one another by using the community kitchen, computer lab, or shared programming space intended for the community to enjoy.
The grand opening of The Hub was celebrated by Marcie Ponte, Executive Director, Working Women; Susan McIsaac, President and CEO, United Way Toronto; and members of the Victoria Park community.
"We are so pleased to officially open our doors and welcome the community inside The Hub," said Marcie Ponte, Working Women Community Centre's Executive Director. "This Hub will strengthen the ties between communities living in the Victoria Park neighbourhood and provide vital services to the people who call this neighbourhood home. The Hub will give people an opportunity to connect and share their experiences in one place, and at the heart of our community."
The project is a result of a partnership between Working Women Community Centre, United Way and a number of local agencies that are providing vital supports to residents living in the Victoria Park and Eglinton East area.
"United Way is so proud to see a project like this one bring renewed life and spirit to the Victoria Park community," said Susan McIsaac, United Way's President and CEO. "We began our journey to strengthen neighbourhoods through our Building Strong Neighbourhoods Strategy just five years ago, and projects like this remind us of what we can accomplish when we come together. We hope The Hub will become a vital part of community life in Victoria Park."
