Frances Lankin named Woman of the Year
United Way President Honoured at 2008 Consumers’ Choice Awards
TORONTO — United Way Toronto President and CEO Frances Lankin has been named the 2008 Woman of the Year by Consumer’s Choice.
The honour was presented to Lankin at a gala award presentation held June 2 at the Stage West Theatre in Mississauga.
The Consumers’ Choice Award is the fourth honour awarded to Lankin in the past few months, including the 2008 EVE Award (May 2008), the Canadian Public Relations Society’s 2007 CEO of the Year award (January 2008), and the 2007 Toronto Star Laurel Award (December 2007).
The Consumers’ Choice Award is based on surveys of the general public conducted by Leger Marketing. In surveys, members of the public were asked to identify individuals and companies that have distinguished themselves most in the last year.
"This award underscores the impact United Way Toronto is having across our city," said Lankin. "We work very hard to make a difference in the community every day and to create opportunities for a better life for all."
"As a snapshot of public perception, the Consumers’ Choice Award is a good indication that people in Toronto understand and acknowledge the work of United Way in their community."
