Giving Back to Crescent Town
Shatabdi Sarker, a Tax Administrator at ScotiaBank, knows first-hand the challenges faced by the residents of Crescent Town in Toronto’s east end—she called the neighbourhood home for seven years after her family moved to Canada from Bangladesh. So when she was offered the chance to help a group of women, also from Bangladesh, get a small business off the ground in her old neighbourhood, she jumped at the opportunity. Read her story.
Next generation of volunteers
Danielle Arnold first began volunteering with United Way during high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba. And when her career brought her to Toronto, she found enriching volunteer positions with United Way Toronto, first on an allocations review panel and now with an executive position on the GenNext cabinet. Ambassadors help build awareness of United Way among people in their twenties and thirties at work, while engaging them in the community by working with United Way Toronto.

Board of Directors Member
Community Living Toronto
Community Living Toronto is seeking volunteers to join their Board of Directors of 18 people. The Board is responsible for: safeguarding the mission, vision and values of the organization, setting its strategic direction, overseeing the provision of its finances, and meeting the needs of its stakeholders. Directors are elected by the membership for either a one- or two-year term, depending on the vacancy, and may be re-elected. The Board meets the fourth Tuesday of every month (except December, July and August) and meetings typically last two to three hours. Coaches, Referees, Score/Time Keepers
Malvern Basketball League
The Malvern Basketball League (MBL) is a break-through program organized by 42 Division Toronto Police Services, Malvern Family Resource Centre, Malvern Community and Recreation Centre and the Malvern Action For Neighborhood Change that aims to provide “at-risk” youth aged 13 to 16 with the opportunity to participate in an organized basketball league without cost being a barrier. Participants will be coached and mentored by 42 Division Officers from Toronto Police Services, Youth Workers and Youth Community Mentors who will effectively bridge the gap between the police and youth in Malvern and help relieve some of the tensions that currently exist. The season is set to take place at the start of April and we are currently recruiting volunteers for coaches, referees, and score/time keepers. The league will run Monday nights from 6 pm to 9 pm. Food Bank and Administrative Assistant
Syme-Woolner Neighbourhood & Family Centre
Syme-Woolner Neighbourhood and Family Centre, at Keele and Eglington, is looking for Food Bank Volunteers to load trucks, sort food, break down boxes, and organize goods on shelves, etc. They are also looking for an Administrative Assistant to answer phones, take and pass messages, fax, and photocopy.
