RBC raffle raises close to $130,000 for United Way
Winners of the RBC Special Loans Charity Raffle in support of United Way were drawn January 20. Over 5,100 tickets were sold, raising a total of $129,000! Congratulations to all the winners of these fabulous vacations:

Katie Lynn, Lindsay McMillan & Christina Yu, the Employee Campaign Chairs of BBDO's United Way campaign, purchased a custom cake donated by Cake Star, at their United Way auction. This custom United Way thank you cake was commissioned to recognize the efforts of the campaign committee, who made this their best United Way Campaign ever. This year BBDO raised over $65,000 for United Way Toronto. Way to go!!!

High School Musical meets community building: a toe-tapping tribute to United Way Week by students and faculty at Northern Secondary School.
Third annual Brookfield Stair Climb raises $46,000 for the community!
This fall's 3rd Annual Brookfield "Pain for Gain" Stair Climb challenge saw 24 brave and fit staff from Brookfield Properties climb all the stairs, in all the buildings, in the Brookfield Toronto Office Building Portfolio. They climbed 6,340 steps or 317 floors — that's almost 4 CN Towers for each climber! While that is very impressive, they also increased the funds raisied for the community this year by over 40%! Their generous sponsors raised almost $23,000, which will be matched dollar for dollar by Brookfield Properties, for a total of $46,000. Way to go!
Molson Coors Canada: United they found a Way!
This year Molson Coors highlighted the increasing need for social services and how employees could make a difference to someone's life. They invited guest speakers who had benefited from United Way to share their stories with brewery workers at town hall meetings. To reach out to all of its hourly workers, meetings were scheduled for each of its three shifts, at midnight, 6 a.m. and midday. After two weeks of donations, events, guest speakers and volunteering, the incredible employees at Molson Coors Canada donated/raised an AMAZING $640,000! (an increase over last year by 5%!) This impressive result shows how passionate and committed Molson employees are to the communities that we work and live in.
Highlights of the Toronto campaign included Sumo Wrestling, volunteering at several United Way agencies, including FoodShare, a special visit by former Toronto Maple Leaf, Darryl Sittler, and a performance by Two for the Show. McCarthy Tétrault has legs — for United Way
Toronto law firm McCarthy Tétrault ran a "So You Think You Can Dance" competition as part of their United Way workplace campaign. Costumed teams from different floors in the firm performed dance routines for their colleagues. Spectators voted for the best teams by donating funds to the McCarthy Tétrault United Way Campaign. The top three teams advanced to the finals where they faced off aganst the "Super Crew" dance team, stacked with some heavy talent from the Senior Executive staff.
Canadian Hearing Society Bakes the Cake!
With such an amazing custom cake, this campaign is sure to be a success!
United Way member agency, The Canadian Hearing Society, launched their 2009 campaign with a kick off luncheon featuring this creative cake, baked by Grade 8 student Kristyn Nazareth.
Kristyn says it best: Without you, there is no way.
Woodbine Turf Races for United Way
The Woodbine Turf Races, an annual workplace charity event to support the United Way, were held on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto.
Woodbine Entertainment Group employees and affiliates participated in a number of running events on the world renowned E.P. Taylor Turf Course — just like the race horses!
Money is raised by each participant through the collection of Win, Place or Show wagers which are then tallied and put into a final pool before raceday with a minimum of half of all funds collected going directly to United Way while the rest cover winning bets.
Events include a 1 1/2 mile distance race, team relays, 100 metre dash for the ladies, a 100 metre dash for men 35+ and a 200 metre race for men 34 years old and younger. All races will be run over Woodbine's world famous E.P.Taylor Turf course.
This event has been growing in popularity from its inaugural run of two races in 1999. Last year, over 82 runners competed in six different categories raising over $4,000 for the United Way.
ACE Canada Stuffs the Bus
Three weeks shy of the start of the school year, ACE Canada (ACE INA Insurance) reached out to United Way Toronto for a partner agency for their stuff the bus campaign. United Way connected ACE with the Boys and Girls Club of East Scarborough, a member agency dedicated to providing valued community-based programs for children and youth. ACE Canada's goal of 50 fully stuffed backpacks was quickly surpassed for a total of 91 fully stuffed backpacks containing much needed school supplies and additional boxes of assorted supplies for use at the centre. With approximately 180 employees in the Toronto office, this rate of giving was unprecedented for ACE, with over 50% staff participation.
"The level of employee engagement to be honest surprised and delighted me," said David Brosnan, Chief Executive Officer of ACE Canada. "We initially set a goal of 25 packs, but early interest suggested we could raise our goal to 50 backpacks. I was overwhelmed by the generosity of our staff so much so that we had to assemble shopping teams due to the amount of funds we had raised."

Pizza Pizza Wednesdays at the TTC
Every Wednesday until November 4, TTC employees will be selling $1 slices of Pizza Pizza at all TTC Subway stations with proceeds to United Way. Yum!
Buck Plays Euchre but United Way Wins

As part of their annual fundraising campaign, Buck Consultant's held their first, and hopefully annual, Euchre Tournament. Employees supported the six participating teams by purchasing raffle tickets in hopes of drawing the winning team.
The generosity and competitive spirit showed up in spades as employees raised $571.00 for the United Way, Buck's favorite charity.
The tournament was open to all employees and held over 4 weeks playing every Tuesday during lunch. Some very experienced and some not so very experienced players participated, drawing partners from a hat. In the end, there were no losers as everyone enjoyed themselves, got to know each other a little better and even learned a thing or two about Euchre.

The big winner of the raffle was Brian Wilcox who randomly picked the winning team of Shane and Christine to be the tournament champions. A second prize draw went to Beth Johnson. Both Brian and Beth each won tickets to see the Toronto Raptors.
