Sponsored Employees tour agency St. Stephen’s during their orientation week.
Primary Role
To provide support to approximately 900 United Way Toronto workplace campaigns on a full-time basis during the fall fundraising campaign. Negotiation, public speaking, training and problem solving skills are used in the role.
Key Responsibilities
The following represents the key responsibilities of a Sponsored Employee:
- Initiate and maintain relationships with workplace volunteers
- Support workplace volunteers in planning, execution and wrap up of employee workplace campaigns
- Deliver orientation and training sessions to volunteer committee members and canvassers
- Promote United Way’s Community Fund to employee groups through speeches and presentations at campaign kick-off and wrap-up events
- Provide workplaces with materials and arrange for speakers and tours
- Identify campaign problem areas and develop solutions
- Monitor and report campaign progress
- Ensure that all accounts and volunteers receive appropriate recognition
- Attend campaign meetings and events as required
- Complete a detailed final report on all United Way workplace campaigns

Accountability and Support
Sponsored Employees and their employers should be aware of the following time commitment and role expectations:
- Potential participants are invited to attend a Sponsored Employee Program Overview and Tour, Monday, August 11, 2008, 1-3 p.m.
- Mandatory training takes place from Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, September 5, 2008
- Sponsored Employees will have an office at United Way, 26 Wellington Street East for the duration of the 15-week program—Tuesday, September 2 to Friday, December 12, 2008. Employees are engaged full time and are not available to continue with their regular workplace duties during this time
- Sponsored Employees report to a United Way Resource Development Manager who acts as their coach and mentor
- Sponsored Employees receive ongoing verbal and written evaluation throughout the program
